ORC Week 4

Woah how did it already become week 4?? Welcome back to the my One Room Challenge progress! This week definitely was the most work filled week of the project thus far but definitely doesn’t show that it’s the most exciting in pictures! Thanks to purdy I received awesome paint brushes to paint our trim and closet doors and added new door handles:

I’m slowly on a mission to get rid and paint of all the honey oak in our house and I’m almost there guys! I’ve painted so much of it in our house like our kitchenguest bathroom last spring, our master bathroom, our bath downstairs, and now finally in our master. It makes such a big difference and breathes some new life and freshness into any space.

Here’s midway through the painting process:

Giving the hardware I found at Menards a try. Menards has some great hardware at decent prices, I also love to give Etsy a look if I’m not in a pinch timewise. Does my mixing of metals scare anyone? It used to freak my mom out a little bit but now we even have her doing it at her house now with chrome, gold, and silvers!

and tadaaaaah! of course the rest of the trim in the room got painted as well but it’s much harder to photograph and not as dramatic as the closet doors.

Since my walls are SW Porpoise I went one shade darker on the doors and did Anonymous and stuck to that same strip and did Eider White for the trim which appears white but has a grey tint if you hold it up to anything bright white so it blends nicely with all the grays in the room.

The hubs even had to admit that the room looks so much more up to date now that the trim is painted white and the closet doors aren’t honey oak anymore. Chili Lime Shrimp Tacos with WFM

Its hump day ya’ll!! So today is the perfect day to make this super yummy recipe! I found this recipe a not too long ago on instagram and thought it looked amazing so I put it on my “must make” list. Last week I decided to actually make it and went to Whole Foods to get all the ingredients to make my chili lime shrimp tacos.

Pictured above are my ingredients plus the shrimp (which isn’t too photo worthy) for the tacos. This was my first time to try out Whole Foods shrimp, the hubs and I aren’t big seafood eaters so we’ve stuck to their chicken and beef but we do like shrimp every now and again!

chili lime tacos 2

Not necessary for the recipe but definitely yummy is grapefruit rose-the sweet wine goes great with the kick the shrimp has to it once you’re done with it!

Here is the finished product topped with some lettuce, tomatoes, avocado and cilantro. Seriously yummy. I will definitely be making this taco recipe again, would be perfect to put the shrimp on skewers on the grill as well this summer. Not sure what to make for dinner tonight? Give this recipe a try, I promise you’ll thank me later!

One Room Challenge Master Bedroom Wk 3

Hello lovelies welcome back to the One Room Challenge, if you’re a newbie thanks for stopping by, if you’re a regular thanks for coming back! This go round I am working on updating and freshening up our master bedroom. I’m trying to freshen up and update our space on a tight budget and with things I received as gifts for my birthday! I’m just a guest participant with Calling it Home but below are all the featured designers that update their blogs on Wednesdays, you definitely need to check them out as well as all of the guest participants.

This week was so much fun to bring in some things that updated and freshened my space for little moola but a big impact. Check out the photos to see what happened in our master this week:

I bought these beautiful blush velvety curtains from West Elm via eBay and loveee how they look in the room and add such a feminine touch next to our dark walls and dark wood dressers.

Another small change I fit in this week was changing out our fan which in my mind made such a huge difference!

Here’s the before:

and after. Now it just blends in with the ceiling and goes away, unless you’re going to do an awesome lighting fixture fans should just blend in and go away so as not to be the focal point in your space.

I keep getting more and more impressed with how much I like the look, feel and quality of our dressers for the relatively small investment we made in them. I think they give a high end look and feel without breaking the bank, I love Wayfair for those reasons!

As I mentioned briefly last week I checked the rug off my list with this furry find from none other than one of my faves-TJ! Love how it feels and the texture element it adds to the space.

Makes me just wanna snuggle up on it sometimes!

And here’s my new bedding all put back together.

That’s it for this week, can’t believe we’re getting halfway through. Next week involves some painting-can’t wait to show you what I’m up to! Stay tuned for more ORC updates on instagram @everydaymrsblog

Buy This: Not That: Spring into Summer

Let’s spring into summer with a new buy this, not that series full of some fun fashion picks! You know Target is by far one of my favorite places to shop for home, fashion, food let’s face it everything and I love all their designer collaborations especially their more recent ones: Who What Wear, DV, and Marimekko that just launched Sunday. I’ve picked up several of their new spring/summer shoes this year because they are just too good to pass up and you know I had to include one of them in this post!

I have been seeing these RM espadrille flats especially in the coral color all over the internet lately but just under $200 for little summer flats doesn’t fit into my budget. However these look alike DV for Target just under $30 do! Seriously love the whole DV for Target line including these and these. Such great fun and basic spring into summer flats, wedges and sandals out there right now that fit most budgets!

You might have been seeing me post a little bit about Stella & Dot lately and how much I’m loving it and being a new stylist. The summer line just came out and there are so many great pieces in the collection and I just received this signet ring, I’ve wanted one for so long but have never found one that could fit into my budget and was giddy when this one was just right and looks so high end in person! Seriously if this is something you’ve wanted to add to your collection run and order now, there are also several monogram options you can do as well!

This is a random one but the perfect “it” product for the summer. I received the UE roll speaker at a blogger event I attended a couple weeks ago at the new Verizon Smartstore. I used the UE waterproof speaker for the first time over the weekend while we were doing yard work and it was so perfect! It’s durable and I didn’t have to worry about it getting wet or my silly puppy licking it 🙂 it’s also the perfect price point I was pleasantly surprised at the amazing sound quality. It will definitley be the perfect spring into summer staple item.
