Summertime Grillin’ & Chillin’

Happy Monday friends! Not such a happy Monday for you, then this post is sure to make it better because it involves some yummy eats!

To me summertime is all about grillin’ and chillin’ whether its just on our deck or poolside we love to grill! Whole Foods has an amazing meat section and like the rest of their food they have great standards for their meat so you can be sure of the quality of the meat you’re feeding yourself and your friends and family.

Whole Foods Meat Standards:

  • No antibiotics — ever
  • No supplemental growth hormones
  • No animal byproducts in feed
  • Raised on pasture or range for at least 2/3 of the animal’s life

Also with all of this Whole Foods partners with local farmers to bring you products that are being raised and grown near where you live which I think is awesome! I chose a nice rib-eye for dinner but the meal needed something else. In the produce section they had prepared veggie kabobs (woohoo! less work for me!) that just needed to be cooked.

The meal was delicious, colorful, flavorful and filling! Do you love grillin’ in the summertime? What are your favorites to throw on the grill? I’m thinking about grillin’ peaches from our peach tree next and drizzle some honey on top! Saw this on Pinterest and ever since I can’t get the idea out of my head. Can you say yum??

Thanks to Whole Foods for sponsoring this post, all opinions are 100% my own.

Believe me it’s hot, hot, hot in Kansas right now so you’re probably thinking whaaaaat? who needs a jacket? but restaurants crank the AC during this heat and I freeze indoors so lightweight jackets/cardis are a must for me and I’m loving this one from LOFT for the summer. Olive green is the new black in my book.

And all the big time fashion bloggers that have been sporting LOFT lately?? They have been seriously on point lately and have been making serious progressions in the fashion industry unlike other brands that are suffering lately, sorry Gap and JCrew. What’s Cookin’ with Blue Apron

Happy Friday! Two posts in one week? I might be getting back into the swing of things, and what better way to start out the weekend than talking about food! I don’t know about you but it’s hard for me to figure out what I’m going to make for dinner every night. I like variety, I like simplicity, and I like yummy food. Duh. But those three things can be hard to attain all together every night of the week which is how we get stuck in the rut of just “picking something up” on the way home that’s neither cheap, super yummy or very healthy.

Here enters Blue Apron. I first heard about Blue Apron through a couple other bloggers I follow and immediately wanted to try it out but they didn’t deliver to my area yet so I added myself to the list to be emailed when they did and about a month later I got that email!

Once I signed up I got to choose which day of the week the delivery would arrive and I also was able to choose 3 out of 6 options for our meals. (also if there isn’t anything on the menu you’re interested in or just don’t want to receive a box that week you can skip as many weeks as you like, no charge!)

Last week I received my first delivery. On the menu: Arepas de Carne Molida, Chicken Piccata, Three Cheese Calzones. It’s so awesome how each recipe comes with all the ingredients you will need, including the “knick knacks” for each recipe (spices, pre-portioned butter/vinegar etc) so you don’t need anything besides a pan and some utensils to whip up a great meal!

First up are the Arepas, here are all the ingredients (sans meat I already started browning the ground beef when I snapped this shot)

For my type a-organized self I love how everything is so organized and labeled. Each recipe comes with it’s own instructions which are pretty easy to follow. All of my recipes took about 30 minutes total to prep and make which I don’t think is bad at all. Here are the finished arepas:

I liked the arepas because they were different from what we normally eat but still simple and delicious.

Next up we have the Chicken Piccata:

I’m not sure what it is about it but I thought the chicken was seriously delicious full of flavor all on it’s own which is always a good thing.

And here is the finished product over linguine:

chicken 2

I really loved the chicken and felt like this was more of an “everyday” meal for us which is great too. Had a great lemon zesty fresh flavor to it.

I have yet to make the calzones but I’m seriously excited for those and hope they are as good as they look!

Being the subscription box “junkie” that I am I loved getting to try Blue Apron out and will definitely be ordering again. For us budget wise this isn’t something we would do every week but I think once or twice a month is fun, worth it, and still much less than going out to eat. If you’re needing variety in your menu this might be just the thing for you!
