One Room Challenge: Spring Wk 5

Welcome back, I can’t believe it’s already week 5 of the Spring One Room Challenge!

countertop update

This week was a busy week with a big project to update this space that I hadn’t planned originally planned on doing as part of the challenge. If you’ve been following along with EverydayMrs’s One Room Challenge then you will remember I left off here last week with the wallpaper and painted walls complete. After that was all finished I was unhappy with how the laminate countertop looked, let’s be real I was unhappy with them before but thought they looked even worse once the bathroom was started to have a more “glam” look.

I had seen DIY concrete countertops all over Pinterest and the web so I decided I would give it a whirl as I didn’t have any other options in my budget. The tutorial I followed was from the blog Design, Dining, & Diapers (thanks Taryn!).

sanding

Once I applied the concrete, (Henry’s Feather Finish) there was a lot of sanding involved…

And by a lot I mean seriously, a lot. After the first night of sanding gave me a migraine masks were necessary the next (included goggles as well but I saved you from that pic) this little electric sander and I formed a love hate, mostly hate relationship over the past week.

before after

This being my first try at DIY concrete countertops I’m pretty proud of myself though if I were to try my hand at it again there are definitely several things I learned that I would do different. The countertops have a “rougher” look than I was planning on but I think it adds some great texture to the space. Would I have loved to just be able to go and buy a new countertop and not make my entire house dust and sand covered? Of course but then I wouldn’t have the gratification of trying something new and doing it myself, it’s called a challenge for a reason!  Once I add all my decorative details I think I will be so so happy with the finished product.

Also updated this week was the light fixture which is now painted gold! The gold is so so much better and just like I love to mix silver and gold jewelry it works just as well mixing your metals/metallics in home design as well.

I’m loving how it’s all coming together and I’m beyond excited to share the finished space! Stay tuned next week to see all the details.

A few trends I wanted to share with you today that I’m loving are bright, bold floral prints, lasercut details, perforated bags, fringe accents, jumpsuits or rompers and gorgeous druzy stone jewelry!
Are there any new trends that you’ve been loving lately or would love to get your hands on? I would love to hear about them!

One Room Challenge: Spring Week 4

Welcome back to Week 4 of the Spring One Room Challenge!

guest bathroom makeover

Last week I left you with pictures of the walls primed and more ideas I had. This week there is some serious progress coming along that I’m excited to share with you! The walls are finished in sea salt and my accent wallpapered wall is complete! I’m thrilled with how it turned out and excited to show you the progress.

The three non dominant walls in the room I painted in Sea Salt and love how the color turned out.

And as I was peeling back the tape from priming the wall I’m wallpaper this happened…little bummed about that as I recently just painted this vanity but nothing a little paint and sanding can’t fix!

After the walls were painted and printed I got to work on wallpapering what I call the dominant wall or the wall you see when entering the bathroom. If you remember I got this wallpaper from my parents that was leftover from a house project they had done so I had a limited amount. This was my first time wallpapering anything and I definitely learned a few things!

I’m pretty proud of myself and how it turned out, being my first time putting my hand to wallpapering and all. You might notice however that the seams at the end of the shower don’t match up perfectly. This is because of two things: 1. I mismeasured 2. I didn’t have enough to redo it so I just had to deal 3. I’m not too worried because the shower curtain will go there so it will hide that the seam isn’t perfectly matched up.

I snapped this picture right after I finished so excuse the mess but I think I did a much better job of lining up the seams this time, can you tell where it is?? 😉 I hung up the new globes I bought for the light fixture just so I could start to see it come together though I still have to paint the fixture.

After finishing the wallpaper I was so motivated and just wanted to get it all done because I’m so excited to see how it is all going to turn out! I have a few more surprises and new things I’m going to add to this space so stay tuned to the next and final two weeks of this challenge to see what they are!

Beach House Sport Review

I’m back on this fine hump day with another great review! I’ve shared recently about my quest to workout with the Tone it Up bikini series as well as eat healthier and making my daily routine all about treating my body right! So I was thrilled when I was asked if I wanted to review some amazing workout clothes from Beach House Sport.

Here are a few things they sent me:

Studio Solids Nadi Racer back

Love, love this racerback sports bra. Fits so well, is comfortable, and remains in place while doing my workout routines! I don’t practice hot yoga as much anymore but I know this would be the perfect sports bra to wear while practicing and sweating all those lbs off!

Sunset Solids Shorts

I’m all about trying out different workout shorts because it’s hard to find ones that are the right length but don’t ride up or show anything that doesn’t need to be shown 🙂 One of my favorite ways to get an efficient and effective workout in is to do a HIIT routine, these shorts stay in place so well during all the different cardio and toning movements that are involved in a HIIT routine!

Kama Mesh Layering Tank

It’s hard to tell in this picture but this is in fact a mesh layering tank and I’m thinking will be absolutely perfect for those runs out in the summer heat! Definitely breathable yet comfortable and would be perfect layered over that racerback sports bra.

Hazy Days Layering Tank

This tank I did not receive but am serious loving! How cute is this layering tank? It’s a 2 in 1 layering tank with racerback sports bra. Some of my favorite workout tanks are ones that have a built in bra in them as it’s one less step to take while getting dressed and motivated to go workout plus I find that everything usually stays in place better while doing any routine that you like! If you’re looking for a new brand of workout clothing and not sure where to start you should take a look at Beach House Sport they have some cute, comfortable pieces that won’t kill your bank account!
