Buy This, Not That: Spring Shoes

buy this not that graphic

The Buy This, Not That series is back again this month focusing back on fashion instead of home design. To see my first Buy This, Not that home edition go here.

I don’t know about you but I am sick of this cold front that’s blowing through and I’m ready for warmer weather! Warmer weather brings fun colors, not having to bundle up and wear so many layers, and freshening up your wardrobe. Boots, layers and cozy scarves are fun for a time but after 4, 5, and sometimes 6 months it get’s really old.

Buy This: Sam & Libby Ashland Not That: Arizona Silver Birkenstocks

It’s taken me a while to come around to the idea that birkenstocks are back in style but these fun silver metallic ones might be enough to make me change my mind! I tried the Sam & Libbys on the other day at Target and they are pretty comfortable. They were even on NYFW runway this year and are said to make your legs look longer. Every woman wants that #amiright?

Buy This: Ann Taylor Kylie Suede Not That: Manolo Blahnik BB Suede

These ones from Ann Taylor I actually did buy, having an employee discount since I work at LOFT might have something to do with it too! I love this bright blue color, they are the perfect pop of color to get you into spring. You can see them on me with several different outfits here. They are surprisingly comfortable and I can wear them all day long.

Buy This: Sam & Libby Heidi Not That: J Crew Suede d’Orsay

I’ve been obsessed with d’Orsay flats and pumps lately and there are so many cute ones out there but a lot of the ones I’ve seen have been over $100. The only shoes I buy that are over that limit are boots because that seems worth it to me, but I can’t justify $100 flats with my budget! Target came through once again (when don’t they??) and introduced these cute Sam & Libby flats. They come in several different color ways and then there are also these which are similar and really cute!

If you don’t already follow me on Instagram @everydaymrsg to see what I’m wearing for spring and how I transition into wearing spring attire while it’s still chilly out!

Award Show Review: Oscars 2015

oscars

The award show reviews are back with a few comments on last nights Oscars! Awards aside, red carpet is where it’s at for me.

First up are my faves from the Oscars:

Catt Sadler’s custom dress was stunning, loved her black dress too she wore after this one but I couldn’t find a good picture to show you. So if you didn’t see last night you definitely need to google it, she was drop dead in these stunning beauties.

LOVE love this color on Emma Stone. The color, sparkle, length looks gorgeous on Emma Stone but what’s new about that?

I think this one is absolutely gorgeous, loving the metallics on the red carpet!

And for my least faves from the Oscars:

I love Reese but she really wasn’t a showstopper in this dress which is a big bummer.

I mean it’s Lady Gaga so I wasn’t surprised but yikes.

Between the hair and dramatic necklace with the halter top this look just isn’t doing it for me.

This dress wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for the black band underneath her bum that looks like it’s holding it up, amiright?

So did you watch the oscars? What did you think, what looks did you love?

Highlights from NYFW

While I didn’t go to NYFW (it’s definitely on my bucket list!) I kept up with everything that was happening on the runway via bloggers that went, social media and the beautiful interweb and I wanted to share some of my favorites with you all.

It was Banana Republic’s first time at NYFW and I loved the collection, hoping they continue to branch out with their designs with their new designer from J Crew as they’ve seemed dull for a long time. Here are some of my faves:

Unrelated to NYFW but within the same company as Banana, Old Navy looks to be making a serious comeback this year by teaming up with the designers of Current/Elliott and fashion bloggers like Jacey Duprie. Can’t wait to see what’s to come for them!

Another brand that really showed up to NYFW in a big way was J Crew, I seriously loved just about every piece! Here are my top faves:

As for higher end designers at NYFW here are the looks I’m dying over:

In the words of Rachel Zoe “I die.” so Olivia Pope-esque and drop dead gorge.

Another from Rachel Zoe, loving this coat!

For me it wouldn’t be right to talk about NYFW and not include Marchesa. Absolutely beautiful designs in their fall 2015 collection and this one that I’m in love with may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s definitely gorgeous in my book!

And for looks that made me say “what the what?” Two words: Kanye. West.

Did you keep up with what was going on in New York this past week for NYFW? What were some of your favorite looks?

Let’s Talk Coffee Tables

I wanna chat a little bit today about coffee tables! If you’ve seen my living room on the blog you will know I use an antique trunk as my coffee table, see that here and here. I love this coffee table and it has worked for several years for me and was a steal at $40 from the flea market. But lately I’ve been noticing it’s just not very practical and is used more for decor in the living room that usability. So today I put together a little inspiration board for a new coffee table. These aren’t all in my budget but it’s fun for me to start looking at ideas to see what I like about each one and see why I like different aspects and how I can maybe combine those aspects to find the perfect table!

Coffee Table Inspiration

Classy Clutter Ikea Hack // Overstock Lucite Table // West Elm Marble Table // World Market Hammered Table // Anthropologie Rounded Inlay Table

The beautiful marble West Elm and the Anthropologie coffee tables are seriously beautiful in my opinion and would make your space but fit no where in my budget. However I’ve seen similar coffee tables with marble tops at antique shops that you could look for and paint the legs gold if that’s the look you’re going for and found it for the right price.

I recently saw this ikea hack on the vittsjo nesting tables on Classy Clutter and fell in love, not to mention her beautiful vibrant living room! This would definitely be the most affordable option, especially if you live near an Ikea. They are also sold on amazon as well.

Lately I’ve been loving the look of lucite and how it can make such a statement without being over the top. I envision putting poufs underneath the table that could be pulled out for extra seating or lounging with somewhere to put your feet up. The only thing that makes me hesitant to go with this option is that it might be too trendy.

I’ve seen the hammered coffee tables from World Market and I love the look, however they are just too small for my space. If they were larger I would definitely be sold!

So what are your thoughts? Is your coffee table practical or just for show?
