WHOLEsome Apple Pie

This post is sponsored by Whole Foods but all opinions are 100% my own. What’s more American (besides cheese of course) and screams fall than apple pie? Whole Food’s blogger theme for the month of October is Crisp Apple Goodness and I was so, so excited to make a homemade apple pie! But then things changed when we got to Whole Foods…

bakery

I mean seriously guys, their bakery section is to die for. So many fresh made pastries, muffins,

cookies, breads, pies…

caramel pie

My intentions really were to make my own pie ya’ll. I went to the produce section first and added some beautiful apples to my cart then we were walking by the bakery section and I saw this beauty and Isaac suggested we should just buy a ready made one that way I wouldn’t have to spend all that time making one. How sweet of him right? So, that’s what we did and I definitely don’t regret it!

oven apple pie

Isaac’s family was coming in town the next evening so I even put it in the oven to warm it up and melt some of that caramel-y apple-y goodness and then served it with vanilla ice cream of course because who can have pie without ice cream? Not this girl.

Fall brings so many beautiful things: all the leaves that change, pumpkin flavored everything (especially PSL’s for all my basic girls), family time, boot/scarf/sweater wearing weather and so much more! I’ve mentioned before that fall is my favorite for fashion and it’s also my favorite for cooking/baking (besides Christmas cookie baking time of course) because all the aromas of fall make a home feel that much more homey and delicious. So don’t feel guilty if you don’t end up baking your own homemade apple pie either…after all mine was whole made at Whole Foods and just as delicious I’m sure of it!

Master Bath Update

I’m at it again! I loved how our guest bath turned out so much that I had to get to work on our master bath cabinet! I’ve done some minor updates on this bathroom such as painting the trim white, the walls mint (Mint to Be Sherwin Williams), and had the carpet taken out and put in wood floors. Seriously, who puts carpet in a bathroom?? I digress.  cabinets before

I used the same brand of milk paint as I did on the guest bath, General Finishes, though this time in Driftwood. It was the perfect medium shade of gray, I love love love it. Three loves ya’ll, its getting serious.

Just like the guest bath this was super easy to apply and the gray covered even better than the white so I didn’t need as many coats. This paint is seriously beautiful, it goes on like butter. No streaks or brush strokes and doesn’t drip. The right side of the picture above is only one coat and you can see a little bit of the oak on the right side of the picture…serious coverage for the first coat! Though this project is fairly easy and doesn’t require sanding it did however, require that I watch How to Get Away with Murder, Greys Anatomy and drink ample amounts of diet coke. And drumroll please…..

And one more because everyone loves a good before and after pic!

So what do you think? I am literally so blown away by how this project turned out and aren’t sure why I didn’t do this sooner! If you are thinking about painting your cabinets I would definitely recommend milk paint, however because I am not a professional DIYer I can’t tell you it would work for all cabinets. I’m sure that if my cabinets had a high gloss finish or were in really rough shape they would absolutely require sanding but I’m glad that mine didn’t! I’ve read great things about this paint and how it holds up over time so I will keep you updated!

Whole Foods Cheese + Giveaway

Who doesn’t love a piece of cheese??? This girl loves her cheese so when Whole Foods emailed me about doing a review you better believe I jumped on that opportunity!

If you didn’t know October is American Cheese month and coincidentally (or not :)) Whole Foods has a seriously amazing cheese selection. I was blown away by all the different types and excited to get started! The cheeses I selected were Applewood Smoked Cheddar, Havarti, Sharp Cheddar Cheese, and Mild Cheddar…the last two are really exciting I know, we like to get crazy around here.

whole foods cheese

It took me a while to choose the types I wanted as there were so many but the staff at Whole Foods is always so friendly and this was no different. They stepped right in and pointed me to their favorites plus listened to the types of foods/wines that I liked and they were able to find me some great options to try! I look forward to trying other types in the future as well! (Plus it gave me a chance to use my cheese plate for the first time that was a wedding gift!)

All of the cheeses were delicious, the applewood smoked cheddar just smells amazing let alone tastes scrumptious. The havarti I actually used in a pasta dish and the other two just to snack on..I’m thinking next we should make some gourmet queso. Football food anyone?

It wasn’t too bad paired with some white wine either 😉

grilled cheese

And of course we had to use some of it to have gourmet grilled cheese! What’s more American than that? The applewood smoked cheddar is what I used on mine mixed with sharp and mild cheddar while Isaac stayed vanilla and stuck to mild cheddar cheese. The applewood was by far my favorite to snack on and was even better melted on some yummy toasted bread!

Anniversary Staycation

I can’t believe our anniversary was over a week ago and that I’m just now sitting down to tell you about our anniversary staycation! Life has been crazy busy since then and just now starting to slow down. If you follow me on instagram you were given a first hand look at some of the things we did on our staycation! Since I recently started a new job we decided not to travel anywhere for our first anniversary but still enjoy some time off work at home, going out to eat, shop and do some fun activities! Get ready for a photo overload!

IMG_2088

We really started off staycation with dinner at Panda Express and a movie in bed because Isaac had a long week at work but we didn’t take pictures of that 🙂 So the next morning started with a little breakfast treat at Whole Foods with a yummy pumpkin spice latte and double chocolate muffin!

That evening we went out to a nice dinner and I enjoyed a moscow mule! One of my faves

And a dinner date wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Gander Mountain after…I never imagined I would spend so much time at stores like this and Cabela’s. The hubby is lucky I love him so much!

We ended the night at the movies! Gone girl for the win.

The next day I made breakfast in bed then we went to a local airfield for lunch on a chilly afternoon and watched the planes go by…

Our last date night of staycation ended at a scrumptious steakhouse complete with a little bubbly and fried donuts!

And I’m too into tradition that of course we had to have our wedding cookies (with milk)…and they actually weren’t too bad! I still can’t believe it’s been a whole year since our wedding! To see our anniversary pictures go here and to see how I ended staycation go here!
